LIGO Hanford: Listening to the Ripples of the Universe
Visited LIGO Hanford Observatory in Washington to film one of the world’s most precise instruments, detecting gravitational waves — ripples in spacetime first predicted by Einstein. Built on part of the historic Hanford Site, once central to the Manhattan Project, LIGO symbolizes a transformation from atomic history to cosmic discovery. Nearby Richland, shaped by science and the Columbia River, reflects this legacy of innovation and renewal.

The Big Island of Hawaii
Explored Hawai‘i’s Big Island to film a cultural documentary accompanying my Mauna Kea lecture. From Hilo’s vibrant town life to Rainbow and Akaka Falls, Onomea Bay, and Laupahoehoe Point, I captured the island’s natural power and beauty. Walked the historic Donkey Trail, filmed the Japanese Gardens, and visited the ‘Imiloa Planetarium, where Hawaiian tradition meets modern astronomy. A journey revealing Hawai‘i’s spirit beneath the stars.

La Silla: The Dawn of Modern Astronomy in Chile
Visited La Silla Observatory in Chile as part of ESO’s official photography team. This historic site, ESO’s first observatory, hosts the 3.6-metre Telescope with HARPS, a leading exoplanet hunter, and the pioneering New Technology Telescope. Despite the desert’s dryness and challenging conditions, La Silla’s skies are among the clearest on Earth. Capturing its legacy and atmosphere was an honor, blending history, science, and the beauty of the cosmos.
